Rocky Claws 2010-5-1 Nightscapes
Title Exposure date Category
Characteristic rocks in the area of the medieval fortress Asara, Eastern Rhodope Mountain, Bulgaria. Read more about Asara under my image "Night Colors". A one-hour exposure started about two hours after sunset in a moonless night. The rocks are light painted with my head-lamp balanced with a warming gel. The yellow-orange tones in the sky result from light pollution from the nearby village of Jenda. The camera was pointed exactly to the North with the right angle to put Polaris (the North Star) behind the rock. During the Earth-spin the North Star remains nearly in the same place on the sky, all other stars are spinning around it hence the circle-like star trails.
