Moniak Fortress 2010-12-12 Solargraphy
Title Exposure date Category
The first solargraphy camera I installed for solargraphy season II/2010. The middle-ground subjects are two monumental rock formations which centuries ago provided protection of the medieval fortress Moniak (Mneakos) from East. The fortress located in Eastern Rhodope Mountain, Bulgaria has played an important role during the Crusades. It has also been of great strategic value for the Byzantine Empire and Bulgarian Kingdom. A 5 months and 9 days exposure with a beer can pinhole camera loaded with Ilford photo paper. Despite the location is frequently visited by tourists and hunters, the camera survived. Apparently the camouflage did the job.

Check out my 3-hour star trails exposure (Moniak Fortress Starscape) and my sunset landscape on medium format film (Moniak Sunset) both shot in the same area.
